FAQ: Why are good knives so expensive?
14th Jun 2015
As the saying goes, you get what you pay for.
And what do you get when you spend a little more for a knife?
- You get better engineering and design -- a knife that'll do what it's meant to do and hold up doing it.
- You get better materials -- better steel, better handle materials and, on folders, better moving parts like pivots.
- You get better workmanship -- beyond basic assembly, this includes things like proper heat-treat of the steel.
- You get a better company -- a company that stands behind its products unconditionally, often a lifetime warranty.
- You get a tool that does what a knife is designed to do -- cut!
Its blade will take a great edge and hold it the way it should. It won't let you down.
Of course, you can still buy an el cheapo knife that looks cool and feels sharp (at least at first). But take it from us, it won't last long -- it's probably junk.
On the other hand, you could spend a little more and buy a real knife. Your call.
