About Jesse Hemphill

I served a five year apprenticeship in ornamental blacksmithing and later worked in that field but my great love is bladesmithing. I began making knives around 1987 and was at one time a full time maker. Now I'm a special education teacher and work in the shop at night and on weekends. At the present time, all the knives I do are Damascus pattern welded steel. My work is influenced by traditional American and European patterns and occasionally something totally different. I do not used set patterns at this time, usually starting with a general idea and letting the knife happen as I build it. I use all natural materials wood horn etc and stabilize the woods that I use, always trying to pick out the most interesting figured woods I can find.

My mission is to produce the best cutlery I can,make friends who love knives as much as I do and give the customer a tool they will be proud to own.
