Originally released in 1997, the Native® series has been a mainstay of the Spyderco product line. It remains a great example of the company's commitment to utility, quality, and innovation. With the Spyderco Native 5, Spyderco's Native line enters its fifth generation. It does so with a number of significant design and engineering advances that are the result of their ongoing commitment to Constant Quality Improvement (CQI).
The Spyderco Native 5 continues the company's commitment to ergonomic design with a knife handle featuring a solid stainless steel back spacer and textured G-10 scales – or textured FRN on the lightweight version. This linerless construction reduces weight while maintaining structural strength and solid support for the back lock mechanism. The elegantly simple mechanism offers increased strength, smooth action, improved self-close function, and greater resistance to wear and tear over previous generations.
The standard blade steel of the Native 5 is CPM S30V stainless steel, but Spyderco has expanded that offering with additions like super high-grade CPM-S110V and Maxamet steels. The blade features a full-flat grind, a distal taper, and an understated wedge. Combined, these features offer a distinctive look and exceptional edge geometry. A forefinger choil supports the option of choking up on the forward grip for increased leverage and control.
Spyderco's Trademark Round Hole™ ensures swift, positive opening with either hand, and complements the back lock and stout four-position hourglass clip, making deployment and operation of the Native 5 completely ambidextrous.
