From award-winning industrial designer Kevin Smock and the high-end manufacturing at Spyderco comes this incredible modern folder. Known for his handmade custom knives, his SK23 custom folder is the basis for this Spyderco Smock folder. It's not an easy thing to execute on a large-scale production basis, but Spyderco was up to the task and knocked it out of the park.
The blade is precision machined CPM-S30V stainless steel, hollow-ground to bring it to a keen edge, and satin finished. The blade features the trademark Spyderco Round Hole along with an integrated flipper that subtly extends from the top corner of the knife. To dial in the perfect flipper action, the knife contains two special ball-bearing pivot washers as well as a second detent mechanism that is independent of the locking mechanism. The skeletonized handle is built on full stainless steel liners covered with textured carbon fiber/G-10 laminate scales. The lightweight, open-backed construction further helps to save weight, and the knife rides on a reversible, tip-up pocket clip for ambidextrous carry.
In addition to all that detailed design and manufacturing, the Smock uses a unique version of Spyderco's Compression Lock that is released using a push-button. It's easy to access and operated while staying totally clear of the sharp edge of the blade. Spyderco's Smock flipper is a faithful representation of Kevin Smock's unique design, blending innovation and quality into an accessible production model.
