This utilitarian folder was originally designed by Italian custom knifemaker "Max" and produced by lionSTEEL®. Now Spyderco has put their mark on it thanks to an exclusive collaboration with lionSTEEL. The addition of the easily accessible SpyderHole and the deep-carry wire pocketclip take this design to a whole new level. The Bohler M390 blade has a full-flat grind to bring this super high-grade stainless steel to a fine cutting edge. A robust lockback mechanism provides the blade with solid lockup and support. The handle construction is based on skeletonized full titanium liners for lightness and strength. The handle scales are contoured brown canvas micarta. The entire spine of the knife from the blade to the lock bar lockbar and backspacer is crowned for a smooth look and feel, and this attention to detail really sets the knife apart. The carries right side tip-up on a deep-carry wire pocketclip.

Comfortable in Hand
The SpyOpera in M390 steel boasts ‘crowned’ or rounded corners that make a pleasure to hold. I wish more folders were finished like this. Its small size fits my medium-sized hand perfectly. The only complaint I have was white buffing compound caught in the cut-outs for the wire clip but everything else was clean. It was its lines as a ‘gentleman’s’ knife that caught my eye. However, I would welcome a proportionally larger knife with a four-inch blade for those ‘ungentlemanly’ tasks.
